In an effort to keep the next stage of the secret project a secret, I tried to pass it off as a competition.
However, it wasn’t so crash-hot successful. We had some great entries, however there was only about 20-30, which, given the sizable results from the first stage of this endeavour, was not nearly enough. (Especially given that I was/am going to be spending about $60 on prizes)
So I’m pulling back the veil and revealing my real reasons. There’s a current, secret project that’s going down that needs nerdfighter themed artwork, with the idea being that it’s something Nerdfighteria has been responsible for creating (So not John and Hank’s face as much as Puppy-sized elephants and French Llamas).
As I tried to make clear in the competition details, the submission will be most accessible if it’s not meeting the edges. (like above, how there’s a frame that contains everything within the image, and there’s no colors or lines that are abruptly cut off by the end of the image)
This is good, but not ideal, as you can see the color has a hard, straight line along the bottom where the rest is cropped out. I’ll be making exceptions and working in ways to solve problems for really good submissions, however your piece will have a much better chance at being used if it complies with these suggestions.
Accepting all artwork, new and old. You can submit them here, or upload them to your own page, and use the tag PJAC, for ease of me finding it. Just make sure you have the name you want to appear next to it somewhere in the post. You can use your name, username, anon, etc.
I’m extending the competition dates to the 31st of May, and the secret project itself will finish up over the duration of June.
It’s going to be great, and I can’t wait to share the results with you.
Submitted to the PJAC.
Nerdfighter Llama for PJAC
As it mentions in the convoluted post, you can enter by submitting here on my page, or by posting to your own blog and using the tag ‘pjac' (short for pizza john art competition)
The due date is currently the 16th, but it’s taken a bit to get some traction, so I’m considering extending it to the end of the month so everyone has a better chance to submit something.
I’ve had about 20 entries so far, so.. y’know, good chance at winning?
I’m retrying this with all the details. The original post got out of hand, so I thought I’d re-summarize everything I’d covered.
What: Make nerdfighter themed art (John, Hank, Llamas, puppy-sized-elephants, bounty earned from the seas and claimed for tax purposes, TFIOS, DJ Railstone. Anything that Nerdfighters have been responsible for.)
When: By the 31st of May (extended)
Where: Submit it here, or on your own blog with the tag #PJAC (Pizza John Art Competition)
Why: Future Nerdfighter projects could use something to make them prettier. Also, there’s prizes.
Who: You. And me. Speaking of ‘me’, I should state now that I will not make any profit out of this. Quite the opposite (see following list)
1st Prize - set of John Green Landscape Posters
2nd Prize - Pizza John shirt (or another shirt from DFTBA Records, if you already have one)
The only thing I’m encouraging is to try and have your art sit in the middle of a white space. It could be on a cloud, it could just be floating in a white abyss. This will make it much more accessible in the future.
If you have a masterpiece that meets the edge of the document, I’ll make exceptions, it’s not the end of the world.
You can enter as many times as you like. Extra points for a series. Old pieces are also welcome.
If you submit your piece into this contest, it will be collated, stored (publicly assessable), and potentially used in future nerdfighter projects. So you have to be okay with that when you enter (Again, no profits. If profits; charity.)
(I doubt there will be profits, but I’m not psychic, a time-traveler, or a psychic time-traveler.)
PLEASE SUBMIT with the name you want to appear alongside your piece. If it ever does get used anywhere, you will always be credited. You can have your real name, username, anon, etc.
And have fun. I’ll be reblogging entries, and announcing the winners here in the weeks to come.
**edit* Also, resolution matters. If you send in a thumbnail, it will be mostly useless. Please submit with the highest resolution you can.
You can make little Johns and Hanks, puppy sized elephants, the Evil Baby Orphanage, Nerdfighteria Island. Anything.
Doesn’t matter how well you can draw, as long as the image has white edges, and is ‘Nerdfighter’ themed, you can’t go wrong.
First prize is a set of all four John Green Landscape posters
Second prize is a Pizza John shirt (or another shirt from DFTBA Records, if you already have one)
The awards shouldn’t matter all that much, as this is definitely more for the art than anything.
The deadline will be 2 weeks from now, which is the 16th of May.
Entries will be posted/reblogged (unless specifically requested not to) and the winners will be announced on my tumblr over the coming weeks. I hope you guys have fun with this one.
Hank and John, avert thine eyes. The rest of you, delve a little deeper.
We need your help.
Fill out this form, so that we can do something with the information.
(it shouldn’t take long, and it should turn out really well)
And that’s it.
We have a ‘Decrease World Suck’ project on our hands.
We are now going to try and unite to collaborate on a crowd-sourced magazine (that won’t be nerdfighter themed). If it’s successful, and actually makes any money, all proceeds will be going to charities that the group votes on. So that’s neat.
I’d recommend EVERYONE to go and like this page to keep posted about progress, etc. (More info about ATLAS below)
And if you were interested in participating in the creation process, there are individual groups for each project (there could a novel writing project as well, for anyone who’s interested)
Join this group if you’re interested in helping out with the magazine. You could be a computer game reviewer, political genius or an artistic wizard. We’ll be deciding on some themes/topics shortly, and your
And join this group if you’re interested in helping out with the collab novel. We’ll form teams, and organize local jams (maybe) where we establish a writing style/characters/plot, and then go crazy in Google Drive.
I’m super stoked at the idea of improving the world through pure creation. I think it’d have to be one of the greatest ways.
Even if you aren’t interested in contributing, I’d recommend liking the page out sheer curiosity. Could something like this work?
I’ve found suppliers and potential distributors, so maybe.
ATLAS is a project I’ve been working towards for many years now, and will be something that encompasses many fundraisers for charities in the future (hopefully), and I hope for Ink to be one of its foundations.
More info about it will be coming out soon, just know that you’re not joining some cult by signing up.
This project is open to non-nerdfighters as well. We’re just using nerdfighteria as a strong foundation, because it’s so pro-active, and this is the kind of thing I think they’d get into.
Nerdfighteria has had a pretty bad week, so here’s a little present. I decided to expand upon my TFIOS cover, and do the others in John’s core four.
It only took me about 3-4 days with little sleep to draw everything from scratch.
(Probably still WIP, knowing me)
Now back to working on my own book, I guess.
Remember this one?
